It has been all go here at The Cottages this summer, welcoming guests from all over the world including lots of returning guests, some even booking for next year before they left.
Our gardens are still bursting with colour and the cottages warm and inviting. So, if you are mulling over the idea of an Autumn break just take a look at our availability and book yourself a pre, (dare I say it?) Pre-Christmas break!
Here are a few of the exciting things planned in the area over the next few months for you to get away from it all, and still find lots of choices for sightseeing and participating in events. And, of course you know where to spend your Autumn nights, tucked up in one of our charming cosy thatched cottages.
Vintage Rally
10th September 2023, Knockbridge, Dundalk
Knockbridge Vintage Club presents another wonderful Vintage rally and working day on 10th September. There will be live entertainment, vintage vehicles on show, a dog show, circus performance and children’s amusements. A drumming workshop, fashion show, flower arranging demonstrations, the list goes on! The day starts at 11am and promises to be a fun packed day for all the family.
Laytown Races
12th September 2023
The Laytown Races occupy a unique position in the Irish racing calendar, as Ireland’s only horse racing event run on a beach under the Rules of Racing since 1868.This year’s date is 12th September. We love this little piece of living history that is known the world over. Whether you are a betting person or just want to watch these amazing animals, the races are a great day out for all the family.
Boyne Valley Trails
September Walking Festival 18th – 24th September 2023
This September sees a wonderful program of local rural and urban walks designed for all the family. The walks will take you through the Boyne Valley and along our stunning coast, sightseeing along the way with a choice of historical walks and talks, immerse yourselves in the land of Myths and Legends. Join the DRAWDA urban art trail and visit the beautiful murals that now adorn many of the buildings in Drogheda and surrounding area. Each with an intriguing story to tell.
Boyne Tradfest
22nd – 24th September 2023
Drogheda will be hosting the Boyne Tradfest this September with over 35 performers from all over Ireland coming together to celebrate the Irish traditional music and song. This event is over 3 days starting from the 22nd September and not only is it a free event but the talented artists will also be running workshops in Flute, Uilleann Piping, the Fiddle, Harp and much more.
Púca festival
27th – 31st October 2023
Each year the Púca together with the Spirits of Meath Festival 6th October – 6th November gets bigger and bigger with street entertainment, concerts with music from Jack Lukeman, Mack Fleetwood, The High Kings, Macy Gray, Hothouse flowers, comedy from the likes of Waterford Whispers News reporter Gunther and many more artists. There will be a Púca trail, foraging tours, Samhain circus and even divining. So click on the links and check out the 2023 Festival program.
Lu Festival of Light
27th – 31st October 2023
2nd – 4th November 2023
The festival of light depicts the age-old folk stories of Oengus and Caer, The Salmon of Knowledge, Boann goddess of the Boyne and much more, stepping through history illustrated by projectors at the Old Abbey, St Peter’s Cathedral and St Laurence’s gate. This spectacular event literally lights up the heart of Drogheda with its mastery of storytelling. The town will be full of other events complimenting these light shows adding music and colour to this weeklong theme.
